What: Lakeland Videogame Expo, by GDL Entertainment and the Lakeland Gamer’s Guild When: Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Where: Lakeland Community College, Main Campus Gymnasium (Google Maps directions) PRE-Registration: GDLent.com/register [caption id="attachment_703" align="alignnone" width="1024"]Lakeland Videogame Expo venue (main gym) Look at all this space! T.O.;  Chris Hatala, Event Director, GDL Entertainment; Dom DiPadova, President, Lakeland Gamer’s Guild)

  • Food/drink for sale just outside the venue all day and night
  • Dozens of gaming setups
  • Retro- and fighting-game events and challenges, along with a region-wide Smash Bros. Melee tournament
  • Quality stream broadcasts
  • Try not-yet-released games from Cleveland indie developers
  • Celebrate videogaming through apparel and art for sale
Prizes: Standard FGC payouts for fighting games (70. Venue/Tournament $: $13 venue cost to attend the event (goes up to $14 Sept. 16!), plus values as listed per game. Events: 
  • Mario Kart 8 Grand Prix (Free, all day, see below for rules)
  • Retrogaming Championship (Free). Surprise 8-bit challenge, with crazy prizes up for grabs!
  • Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament ($5)
  • Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament ($5)
  • The King of Fighter XIII tournament ($5)
  • Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Arcade hardware, UD-CPS2 & Supergun, $5)
   

Competition format: 

  • All expo goers AND tournament players should pre-register online (will be up soon). (You may register on-site, but A: your tournament seeding will be random, and B: attendance is more costly at the door.).
 

 Mario Kart 8 Rule-Set

  • Random stages
  • 150 cc
  • “Tournament” item set
  • No CPU racers
  • 4-player races throughout (when possible)
  • Pick any character/car/accessories. (If there’s a dispute, coin flip will decide who gets the disputed character).
  • 1st place in any race gets 2 points; 2nd place gets 1.
Contestants may compete in up to 8 races (2 per hour) until 3 p.m., at which time Top 8 points leaders will be announced. At 5 p.m. final grouping of races commences (Top 2 in each Semi-finals heat move on to Grand Finals)

Fighting-Game Rule-Sets

Standard FGC rulesets apply for all games (Double elimination bracket, 2/3 matches with 3/5 Grand Finals. Super SF2 Turbo is 3/5 throughout)
